John McGinn dropped by Aston Villa caretaker manager Aaron Danks

Aston Villa caretaker manager Aaron Danks has dropped captain John McGinn for his first game in charge of the club.

McGinn has played in all 11 of Villa’s Premier League games so far this season, but has been left out from the start in the first match after Steven Gerrard was sacked. McGinn was named captain in the summer, replacing Tyrone Mings.

Leander Dendoncker has been brought into the side to replace the Scotland international.

Villa face Brentford this afternoon as they look to end a run of four games without a victory.

Goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez will wear the armband in McGinn’s absence at Villa Park.

Danks has also brought in Emiliano Buendia and Matty Cash for Jan Bednarek and Jacob Ramsey following the 3-0 defeat by Fulham on Thursday.

Aston Villa starting line-up to face Brentford: Martinez, Young, Konsa, Mings, Cash, Buendia, Douglas Luiz, Dendoncker, Bailey, Ings, Watkins
